A Second Pussy Hat Pattern

Hi all!

Lately, I've been a little overwhelmed by the negativity coming from the eight-day-old administration. I made another pussy hat pattern to try to relax. Here's the pattern, using worsted weight yarn this time.

 Materials:
Worsted weight yarn (less than 170 yds)
 H hook
 G hook
Tapestry needle to weave in ends

 Abbreviations:
 Ch - chain
 Dc - double crochet
 Fpdc - front-post double crochet
 Bpdc - back-post double crochet

Pattern

Starting with a H hook...
1. Chain 38.

2. Dc in third chain from hook. Dc in each ch. When you reach the end (36 stitches), rotate the piece 180° and dc back across the bottom of the ch stitches you already dc-ed into. In total, you will have 72 stitches. Join to the first dc with a slip stitch. Ch 2. Do not turn.

3. Dc into stitch slipped into from previous round. Dc in each stitch around. Join to the first stitch with a slip stitch. Ch 2. Do not turn.
Repeat step 3 until piece measures 6-6.5 inches long (approximately 12 additional rounds).

Switch to G hook...
4. *Fpdc, bpdc. Repeat from * around. Join to first fpdc with slip stitch. Ch 2. Do not turn.

5. Repeat previous round two more times. Do not chain at end. Break yarn. Secure yarn. Weave in ends.

I hear for the scientists march that brain hats will be accessory of choice. Stay tuned for a pattern for one of those!

  2. Hello, as a cat lover I wanted this hat in a few colors. I didn't really want these as a political purpose but had nothing against it. I found a sweet woman online who offered to make me some for free. I bought Red Heart soft touch yarn in 3 colors, country rose, lavender and light heather from Walmart.com and had it shipped to her Walmart for pickup. All 3 hats are lovely and I work as a merchandiser at Walmart. Yesterday I wore the country rose hat to work and apparently someone complained to management that I was "offensive" and was told I can't wear any of these hats to work again. I am upset beyond belief that I can't even wear a grey or purple cat hat to work. How ridiculous is that ? I may fight them on this because a few years back they sold eared hats in my store.

    1. I'm sorry to hear about your experience at work. Some people need to understand that it's just a hat. I think people sometimes jump to outrage and offense at things because it is easier to be upset than to move on. I support your decision to fight them on this. It's just a hat. It could be pink because you like pink or support breast cancer awareness or support the women's march or any or all of the above. I mean, how would they respond to someone wearing a rainbow hat? Everyone likes rainbows. :)

  3. Thanks for your kind words. Today 2 Walmart employees asked me why I wasn't wearing a kitty hat. I told them what happened and they were shocked. One was a man the other a woman. Neither understood this. If I could crotchet I would try to make a rainbow kitty hat. Also thanks for sharing your wonderful patterns. The lady who made mine made some for her young daughter and sent me a pic. I asked if her daughter liked it and she said when her daughter plays outside she can't get her to wear a hat but since she has a kitty hat she never refuses to wear one. So you did a good deed :)
